As I embarked on my journey through Waford, a mysterious island where the Strawhat Pirates find themselves stranded after their ship, Sunny, gets shipwrecked, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation. Having played previous One Piece games, I was expecting a new adventure with fresh mysteries to unravel, and One Piece Odyssey did not disappoint.

The game kicks off with an opening sequence that's familiar to fans of the series, and as I began exploring the island, I assumed it would be a purely original story. However, my initial excitement soon gave way to a sense of déjà vu, as I realized that the first few hours of gameplay felt eerily similar to Unlimited Adventure. While this didn't necessarily spoil the experience for me, I had hoped for something more innovative.

Despite this, One Piece Odyssey is still a solid JRPG with plenty of content and a unique battle system that plays to the series' strengths. With more voice-acted dialogue than previous games in the franchise, fans will appreciate the extra effort put into bringing the characters to life.

As someone who's deeply invested in the One Piece universe, I have to admit that it was challenging for me to review this game objectively. As a fanboy, I could easily spend thousands of words dissecting the premise and narrative choices, which I found aggravating and unsatisfying at times. But as a reviewer, my task is to evaluate Odyssey purely as a game, without letting my biases get in the way.

Overall, One Piece Odyssey is a good JRPG that fans will enjoy, even if it doesn't necessarily break new ground for the series. If you're looking for a fresh take on the One Piece formula, this might not be the game for you. But if you're willing to overlook some of its flaws and appreciate the content and characters that make the franchise so beloved, then Odyssey is definitely worth checking out.
